“Memories and Experiences” and “Treescapes”

Anthony Whishaw RA LG has a busy summer of exhibitions.

A solo show at the Royal Academy of Arts, London ‘Anthony Whishaw RA: Memories and Experiences – small works in conversation’ in which over 50 small and medium-sized works will be on display in the Keeper’s House from 26 March until mid-August 2024.

A solo show at the Harley Gallery: ‘Anthony Whishaw: ‘Treescapes’ (20 April 2024 – 14 July 2024) in which I shall be showing 8 large-scale tree paintings. This exhibition forms one of a series of exhibitions, ‘The Art of Trees’, specifically relating to trees and woodland. The Harley Gallery is situated next to The Portland Collection Museum in The Courtyard at Welbeck. Welbeck is one of the great traditional landed estates, nestled within Sherwood Forest in Nottinghamshire.

Whishaw will also be showing 6 works at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition 2024 one of which is the recently completed ‘Spinney With Startled Birds’. This painting complements the ‘Treescapes’ exhibition.

Spanning seven decades of Anthony Whishaw’s artistic practice, this display brings together groups of works centred around recurring themes that have consistently captivated the artist: movement, figures, nature, and the illusion of space.

In the studio, Whishaw arranges works of varying sizes and at various stages of development in close proximity, to foster a dialogue between them and guide them toward completion.

All works are available for sale, generating revenue for the artist and the RA.

Everyone is welcome to view this display. Please note that the Keeper’s House is a membership space. If you are not a member, please enquire at the membership desk.

Find yourself in the woods with an exhibition of striking Treescapes by Anthony Whishaw RA.

Anthony Whishaw started painting over 75 years ago. He discovered a love of drawing and painting whilst at school and has never looked back. Ranging from small works on paper to 6-metre-long canvases, these paintings are an exploration of his personal memories and experiences.

See eight of Whishaw’s large-scale tree paintings, interpreting the artist’s first-hand interactions and preoccupations with forests and woodland. These large, multi-layered, textural artworks intend to provide an immersive experience, turning the gallery into a painted forest to explore.
