The Artist Placement Group (APG) was founded in 1966 by Barbara Steveni with the aim of placing artists in industry. The Sculpture was first shown in Between 6, Kunsthalle, Düsseldorf and at inn7o at the Hayward Gallery in 1971 where Steveni and other members of APG led discussions with industrialists.

Founded in 2016 by Barbara Steveni as the third iteration of the APG, Incidental Unit (IU) continues her legacy by connecting and celebrating artists working in extra-artistic contexts from industry to government and health care.

“Over the last six months, on behalf of IU, I have been following up on Barbara’s letters to industry by inviting industries to join us in conversation. I am delighted that fifty years on, representatives of Scott Bader will be reading from their correspondence with Barbara.” Amanda Loomes
