For me, painting must operate independently of fashion if it is to make a meaningful statement.

I love painting. Painting has the ability to excite and surprise me. I paint in complete solitude. There are no rules except those that I make. The canvas provides a space to think and the paint a medium of expression. Pattern, space, light and above all colour, develop a momentum, which engages me over the long duration of the painting’s development. Natural and manmade landscapes have influenced my use of line, tone and mark making.

I am inspired in my recent work by the complexity of human emotion. I explore this landscape through the development of a visual language, which allows me to articulate an intensity and range of feelings. The language is defined by my interest in colour and spatial relationship. My engagement with painting is an emotional one and I intend for the paintings to challenge viewers and evoke a similar emotional reaction.
