Tell us a little about yourself
I was born in Istanbul, Turkey. I studied German Language and Literature at Istanbul University, then completed my MA in Fine Art at City & Guilds Art School in London. I work in many materials, from sculpture to engravings and paintings on paper and canvas in mixed media.
When were you happiest?
At university, both in Turkey and in the UK
What is your earliest memory?
The sun coming through the door of my grandmother’s house and making shadows on the wall. I must have been about 2.5 years old.
Which living person do you most admire, and why?
My uncle Niyazih Toptoprak – for his deep knowledge of Turkish philology, poetry and songs, his sense of humour, and for his wonderful paintings.

If you could go back in time, where would you go?
Göbekli Tepe around 8000 BC – this is the first stone age settlement that has been discovered in Turkey and was very active at that time

Kemal Atatürk, founder of the Republic of Turkey; Socrates; Rembrandt; Dostoevski; Orhan Veli (Turkish poet); Camille Claudel; Marie Curie; Max Planck.
