Black and White – An exhibition of contemporary drawing
In March we are delighted to welcome to the gallery fifteen established artists from all over the UK, for an exhibition of contemporary black and white drawing.
At the gallery we aim to show a range of works over our eclectic exhibition programme, featuring a variety of styles across the plethora of contemporary media.
The role of contemporary art is often to be more engaging, more challenging and occasionally more shocking. The elephant in the room always asking – what next? How can we be bigger , brighter, louder? By contrast, in many ways this show will provide a somewhat traditional exhibition, with stripped back mark-making being presented in an exhibition of new black and white drawing. Thus allowing the skilled creatives we have invited, to show a range of the very best in British draughtsmanship, the mastery of which is the basis of much contemporary work.
The varied artists that have been selected for this show all tackle the art of ‘drawing’ from completely different origins. With a full range of work subject matter being explored through an assortment of media and styles, this show offers a window into the habitual act of looking , responding and recording. This process still being a major factor in the exercise and act of being an artist, just as it always has and always will be.
