“For painting, I was restricted to my neighbourhood while caring for my late husband Ed who had Parkinson’s and lapsed into dementia during this past year. I took up night painting in the streets near our home, in a kind of desperation making a palette before I set out. I would go out in cold weather, hardly able to judge colour, painting impulsively, working fast. It was thrilling, rich, difficult, and opened up new possibilities.

“This show features Trellick Tower and Bassett Road, by night. One work shows nearby Grenfell Tower seen from my studio.

“Ed’s portraits at the last are included as are my lockdown self-portraits and small paintings of flowers in Spanish jugs, melancholy because I feared I would never see mountains, or Spain in particular, again, given that COVID and Parkinsons confined me.

“I gratefully acknowledge the support of my doctor, who told me I must keep painting during these hard years.”
