The title is Screen Arena its composition is derived from an embedded drawing and the encapsulation of fluidity in paint. The screen is an opportunity for action and the sublime. The painting is a commentary on this meta position. A kind of image within an image or here an action within a liquid surface. An example of the contemporary sublime.

Shanghai Remedies: Mr Hu is one in a series of portraits of Shanghai people and their medicine collection. Through chance encounters on the streets and in public parks, people of varying ages and occupations were invited to be photographed in their own homes, together with the medications they possessed. The portraits offer a glimpse of the subjects’ health conditions, personalities and living environments. In addition, by photographing the curious assortments of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Western medicine in their collections, they explore the shifts in health and cultural practices in China.
Produced during an Artist Links residency in Shanghai, supported by the British Council and Arts Council England, 2006.

‘Jacob’s Ladder’ by Paul Tecklenberg LG has been selected by Eve Rothschild RA for this year’s summer show. The seven-metre sculpture is made out of nitric oxide bottles also known as ‘laughing gas’. This happened in the same week Preti Patel announced her intention to criminalise ‘laughing gas’ and people found in possession could face a prison sentence!

This painting is inspired by a small wooded river near Abergavenny, Wales. I want to convey a feeling of change and movement in the landscape and for the paintings to be intriguing, tantalising and ambiguous held between the tactile qualities of paint and the celebratory, magical evocation of the depiction of a special place
