The George is proud to present 10 artworks by artist Chris Horner. The exhibition is a permanent fixture collaboration between Chris and the pub.
Chris is known for making artworks that are highly dependent on experimental processes, which are connected richly to the subject of ‘materiality’. Chris’ experience of supporting his dad in the building trade initiated the working process for each artwork displayed in the pub.
The surface material in these artworks is mortar a material that Chris works with day in day out when helping his dad on the building site. As an artist, however, he has tested the physical property of this material by putting it through many experimental processes, which can provide a new sense of appreciation. He has also worked with used mortar, the remnants of mortar, which can be found on the building site. Instead of it going into the skip and then to landfill he has built it back up as the main structural ground for these artworks. It is his way of challenging any wasteful behaviour and supporting the environment.
