Chris Horner LG has been awarded a residency with The Allen Gallery in connection with the Curtis Museum, The National Lottery Heritage Fund, Hampshire Cultural Trust, Alton Town Council & East Hampshire District Council.
About the Project
“I have been working towards this residency over the last few months and it will continue until summer 2027.
The Allen Gallery opened its doors in 1963. It is, however, undergoing a big transformation. It is being renovated, so it can become a more visually interesting, and exciting ceramic museum and gallery.”
“This is where I come in – I have been given the chance to create and build some new artworks using the original building materials from the gallery. I aim to keep the existing identity and raw aesthetics of each material, but will just add a contemporary twist. It is a pleasure working alongside the Project Curator & Community Programme Manager, The Allen Gallery Team, and the construction site team where I am sourcing some really historic materials to work & play with.
This isn’t just a time for creating and building, but a time to really dive into the rich history of the gallery – a place which I know so well.
I will be presenting a selection of artworks made on this residency where some might find their way into the galleries collection.”
