I am a multi-disciplinary artist with a wide-ranging practice spanning drawing and printmaking, to mould-making, lost wax casting, and kiln-formed glass.
My practice is a way of distilling thoughts and emotions that seemingly defy being summed up in words.
My work occupies a place between representation and abstraction. I am interested in the mind’s tendency to create meaningful connections between two seemingly unrelated things or objects, based on shape or form, rather than any conventional classification. I find chains of associations, splicing them together in order to create a sense of recognition that seems half-dreamt, half-remembered.
Often using found objects as the starting point, I create a series of iterations through image making or casting, taking these surrogate things on a journey of transformation. Even when the form stays the same, the slippages that occur through the change in material and colour calls into question intentionality, and how we classify things around us.
My practice also explores the emotive and social associations of materials. I choose to work with those that overlap art and social life, such as paper, glass, wax, and plaster, in an attempt to investigate more personal narratives such as mental and physical well-being, motherhood and domesticity.
