‘Edge of Town 2’ is from an ongoing series of paintings that are concerned with urban landscape and notions of travel.

These paintings usually feature a single central image; a car, shopping trolley or a lonesome train. They contain a wide range of figurative references, which emerge from a primarily abstract painting process.

I like to keep aspects of the painterly idioms that I have encountered during the journey of making the painting, in the completed picture; an aknowledgement of my own past, as well as that of the painting.

Through this dialectic relationship with the language of painting, I aim to focus mood, association and metaphor. To set up an interaction between real and imaginary worlds, that oscillates between the delights of image and facture. These painting have a comic dimension, in a downbeat, somewhat Freudian way. I would like them to be beautiful as well.
