Philippa Tunstill

My paintings are a continuous exploration of spatial ideas through colour, surface and texture which are applied and manipulated to produce an intense interactive little drama emerging out of a field of flat colour.

This deep surround contains the image but also becomes an essential part of the painting. The square format has been a consistent part of my work for as long as I can remember – it provides the means to extend and multiply but equally satisfies in its purity of form.
